RE: Eclair Cameras: Light Meter Issues

Now that I'm clear on all of this, it leaves me with two questions: 1) Does the internal light meter go up to ASA 800 or ASA 400? 2) Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to make the internal light meter work with Super 16?

hello,

6 months ago i purchased my first film camera ... a beaulieu 4008zm. since that time, i have purchased over 40 beaulieu super8 and 16mm cameras, and more recently a handfull of gsmo's and some eclair npr's, and an acl on the way. i am in the process of making a super16 conversion for the beaulieu r16, and in the case of that camera, it is just a question of repositioning the sensor on the newer, larger prism surface. hopefully next week i will start taking apart one of the npr cameras. perhaps in 3 weeks i will take apart the acl, so when i have made an asessment, and if i have some ideas or have figured out a way to maintain/modify the on-camera light meter, i will post it here accoridngly. not certain how many of you take apart your cameras, but once in, you'll find they are fairly basic in design, and most modifications can be performed with basic tools and materials. those that cannot, typically involve either something that needs to be machined, in which case you visit the industrial area in your city and locate a good and inexpensive machine shop and take your camera/part(s) and explain to them what you need. or, if it involves retrofitting new parts, you can most likely find what you need at edmunds online, or thorlabs online, or newport online, or any number of online resources. also, having precision measuring instruments, collimation bench, mini lathe and mini mill, and some micro-tools can liberate yourself from having to depend on anyone else for your specialy modifications.

i wanted to purchase a video tap for my eclair, but do not want to send my camera out, because i live in a remote part of the world where shipping on and out of my country is very expensive. so the one place i found that sells a nice video tap for the eclair cameras($1700.00 range) is called azspectum. however, they would not sell me the video tap with installation instructions so i could do it myself. now i am going to have to build my own as i do not want to ship my camera and spend over $500.00 in shipping fees alone, not to mention duties upon reentry). so i will update you on how to make a nice video tap using off the shelf products, and perhaps instead of using a ccd, i might try out a cmos with video out and firewire out. unless azspectum decides to sell me their video tap so i cna install, i wont need to go through the hassle of building my own.

so if no one can provide clear instructiuons on how to keep your light sensor working, stay tuned to my posts later this month after i've taken the camera apart. i usually post HOW TO threads at 8mm.filmshooting.com that include lots of photos, and i will do the same with the npr and acl at that time.

cheers and great thread btw! sorry for the long read.
