I'd rather not comment on the sync issue.
However, there is a guideline regarding the mic preamp of the D7.
It has a quirk which results in overloading if you record over -12 dB.
The voltages in the preamp circuit are not high enough to provide
complete
dynamic range.
This does not occur if you use an external mic preamp with the line
input.
Allow only brief peaks into the -12dB area, or use a SBM-1 adaptor,
which
has an excellent mic preamp.
