I have been told in a recent email from another user that the english mag
will run comfortably at 75 fps, that may be true. I have experienced
inconsistent packing of the the take up in these mags when they are
rotated
excitedly during handheld shooting. It is important that the tension arm
has
the correct spring tension and this can be adjusted by removing and
reseting
the tension arm( a tricky job) but if your take up is loose and sloppy it
may just be that the tension spring drive band is stretched or broken. It
connects to itself like the old style springs used in Bell and Howell
projectors. This may have broken or come undone. Yes in answer to your
question , remove the four screws that hold the cover plate down and you
will see a steel spring band check to see that it is riding inside the
grooved wheels that turn it and that the wheels are tightly connected to
the
drive shaft. I have been told that a rubber o-ring can be used to replace
the steel spring but my experience is that the rubber o ring should be
somewhat smaller in diameter to keep it from slipping. All these remedies
are straight forward and you should be able to do them yourself. IF you
have any other problems let me know and I will try to help I am always
eager
to help a fellow acl user avoid a repair bill.

Looking at the mag now....the flat plate: is it removed by the four
screws
near the capstan the roller on the take up side?? Thanks for your
advice,
August. I'll check it out.
