Re: Eclair Cameras: hd-144-installation-questions

Eric,

If I assume correctly, you just purchased that "new" old stock Eclair ACL off of ebay. If this is so, you undoubtedly have a ACL II. I should also mention, seeing the condition of that camera and the price you paid, you are probably the envy of every member on this board. I for one wanted that camera.

The viewfinder and base you have declare it a ACL II. The motor, grip, and mag latch also reinforce this, but were also available on the so called ACL 1.5.

I should also mention that I have bought some camera equipment from that Russian Ebayer, and didn't have a problem. So you should be able to sleep.

I've seen you pop up on the Super8 forum and realize your background and what you were trying to do with that whole DVD project, and encourage you to do it. I can't believe the flack you took from that board. If I'm ever up in Mexico, I'll look you up.

Bernie O'doherty does both super16 conversions and the laser brighten of the ground glass.

hello,

i have searched but have not found information regarding serial numbers to determine what model of acl i have. perhaps some of you may know or could help me? the serial number for the camera is 2115. the hd-144 website indicates i need to determine if my camera is an acl I or II(also, i personally would like to know if it is french or english made, and what year it was made). any info greatly apreciated accordingly.

regarding installation of the kit, any of you done the work yourselves? the instructions seem straight forward, but perhaps some personal experiences can shed some additional light on the subject matter. also, i see there are a few other people/companies that do their own conversions ... based on experiences, quality, etc., would anyone have the opinion one conversion if beter then the next? if so, why? unlike my beaulieu r16's which there are no avialable s16 conversion kits(which is why i've had to forego the process myself), the acl seems well covered, and i for one have no intentions of creating my own converson from scratch. also, i have to do the conversion myself, as it is too costly for me to be sending the camera in and out of mexico, so that is why i am going to go at it myself. i think the only thing i will actually send out is the ground glass to be brightened and etched. any good suggestions as to who cna etch safe marks for a good price?

and one more question not related to the s16 conversion; has anyone here tapped directly into the port on the body and installed video tap without messing with adapting the viewfinder(to avoid the use of any prisms/beamsplitters, etc.)? if so, what mm lens did you use ... 50mm, 80mm?

thanks,

eric
