Thanks, and that does answer PART of my question, but the main one is that
people claim the zooming on the Nikon will not look proper on film, and that
these lenses are not set up properly to zoom while filming?
The lens that is on the camera is the 35-135, or something like that, and he
says it is fine, but many people say it is not good to zoom with Nikon
lenses.

Hi Eric - Because the 16mm format is so much smaller than 35mm stills,
it's a given that you'll see a telephoto effect when you adapt 35mm
still lenses to your 16mm movie camera. For example, a 50mm "normal"
lens for your Nikon will become a 50mm "telephoto" lens on your Beaulieu
because you're just capturing a small rectangle within the circular
image projected by the lens. The good news here is that you're using the
highest performing part of of the lens - the "sweet spot" in the center.
What I'd like to know is how these lenses compare to regular primes,
like the Schneiders and Zeiss lenses. Of course, you know that
everything intended for stills work will cover Super 16 with room to
spare. I'm wondering how my 17mm Tamron might work as a slightly wide
angle.
This also, of course, means that finding a good wide angle of 10 or 12mm
is a problem - there's the cosina/voigtlander 12mm lens in Leica thread
mount but it's maximum aperture is f5.6 - not really useful for S16
work. I guess for a really wide lens one just has to use one of the
lenses intended for S16.
