Re: Eclair Cameras: Super 16mm problems of the medium

Greetings Vic,

-Nowadays quite a few broadcasting corporations no longer accept footage shot in N16.
This is due to the 16/9 Format. This is valid for all kinds of programs. This is
particularly the case in Europe especially in the UK. So if you want your gear to work
then S16 will be more viable.

-If you work on a project for film festivals and or movie-theaters you can easily make a
blow up to 35mm from S16. This allows low budget productions to initially save on
filmstock, and camera equipment rental, but with keeping an option for movie-theater
projection.

-If you later on want to sell some gear it will have a better value if S16

So with S16 you have a larger market.

As a camera assistant when I work 16 format it is almost exlusively on S16, very rarely
on N16. Frankly I don't think there is any problem nowadays with filming in S16.

Emmanuel from Munich
