I have a markII and I believe the difference is in the front element being larger and the outer casing of the front doesn't turn around when you zoom. So if you have a lens shade on it wont spin on you, it just kinda creeps forward a little.  Its a great, sharp lens. I shot Jamie O'Neals last video with it, called "Frantic". (CMT)
