Re: September "Heads Up"
Thanks, Ray, for the T-shirt! I didn't realize there would be
freebies involved! I really appreciate the list, which I have only
recently discovered, and appreciate the efforts you have to make to
administer it.

Yes it's that time again. Clogging your inboxes and your brains, it's
this month's Heads Up.
We had alot of excellent posts in August, so picking one for a
T-shirt
wasn't easy. In fact I couldn't pick just one person (decisiveness
wasn't always my strong suit). I had to go with what I liked best, as
well as who I thought posted consistently throughout the month and
brought the most to the ACL List. For providing so much good info and
coming up with some excellent suggestions I have to give one to Wade
Ramsey. He got on the List the middle of last month and hit the
ground
running providing some great advice for folks. If you get a chance,
go
back and re-read some of his posts. Thanks Wade!
For pure enthusiasm I have to send one to Marc Syp. Marc jumped in
and
was one of the first to sign up when we moved to Topica, as well as
one
of the first to post here. Thanks Marc and I'm glad you're on the
List.
And last but not least I'm sending one to Mark (aka Super16ACL) who
has
been a consistent presence on the List at Listbot and now on Topica.
Mark was here from the beginning and always has an answer regarding
the
ACL. Frankly I was considering selling my ACL last Spring, until I
ran
across Mark and one of his HD144 kit auctions. Mark reminded me of
what
a great filmmaking tool the ACL is and can be. He is primarily
responsible for this List being here. If you haven't been there,
check
out his website (http://members.aol.com/super16acl/menu.htm), it's
the
best ACL resource on the web. Thanks Mark!
If you guys want your T-shirts, send me an email with your address
and
I'll get one out to you. I'm going out of town next week, so it may
be
delayed a little while.
While we are on the subject of the T-shirts, it was such a pain
picking
the best postings that I don't want to have to do it every month. So
I'm
going to do it from time to time as the mood strikes me. If you are
interested in an ACL shirt let me know and I sell you one for my cost
plus shipping.
After my attempt at "fixing" a light seal on one of my mags, it got
me
to thinking. Where are the small maintenance parts we need for our
ACL's? I'm not talking about movement assemblies or ground glasses
but
the little things, like light seals, mag throat covers (half of mine
are
cracking), eyecups, etc. I would like to hear from people on what
they
need for their cameras. The short list I have so far includes:
A better ACL eyecup
Light seals (around the pressure plate and around the doors on 400'
english mags)
Core plate adaptors
New plastic throat covers for our mags
A body cavity cover for the aperture plate when the mag is off the
cam
O-rings for the capstan on the english 400's (although Mark has some
info regarding these at his site)
I'm sure there is other stuff I'm not thinking of. What is missing
from
your camera that you would like to see available?
The reason I'm asking is I think alot of this stuff can be
manufactured
or found but I want to gauge demand before I go to the trouble. Send
me
your suggestions either on List or off List.
I would like to make a request from everyone on the ACL List. Topica
is
free and I keep seeing all these free services going belly up or
changing to a pay service. If you get a chance, while your at Topica
click thru one of their banners as you are leaving, or sign up for a
Topica mailing or two. I know this will get spam in your inbox, but
it
helps to support Topica and keep 'em in business. I did it and I get
a
couple of travel offers a week. Rest assured I have no financial
stake
in Topica nor do I profit from any traffic the ACL List or Listees
generate.
This doesn't have to do with the ACL, but I want to plug John's (aka
Super8Guy) Super8 Topica list. Super8mm is another passion of mine
and
John has started an excellent List at:
http://www.topica.com/lists/Super8Guy
If you dig small gauge filmmaking check it out!
Okay well I try keep these things to a minimum size. We are all busy
and
have better things to do than read some List Mum's rant. I hope
everyone
had a good summer and got some stuff shot. I'll be talking at ya next
month.
Take care all,
Ray the List Mum
