RE: Eclair ACL ACL Batteries
What battery and charger do you have? If it's the original flat pack
VR-1 it recharges in 30 minutes in the fast charger that came with it.
The charger is supposed to cut off automatically.
There isn't any easy way to determine the state of charge on a NiCad,
because the voltage is so constant. When it runs out it happens
suddenly. Anton-Bauer uses a very sophisticated computerized circuit
that tracks how much went out so it knows how much to put back in.
Otherwise, you just charge it before each use, to be sure. This is
not the best practice, because it leads to overcharging, which
shortens battery life.
The standard slow charge (trickle charge) is about 14 hours, with a
charge rate of 1/10 the ampere hour rating of the cells (1.2 Ah
cells=120 mAh charge rate.) End of discharge is 1 volt per cell. So
when the 12v battery gets down to 10v consider it discharged. Don't
deep discharge, it can really damage the battery.

Is there a way to tell if the ACL Battery is fully charged, half
charged or not charged enough for a shoot? I have a battrey and
charger, but I don't know the charge?
