But the reason for changing the shutter to a 144 degree version is to give
the mirror more time to clear. Without the shutter change, the mirror will
cast a shadow.

On, the other hand, from sad personal experience, I don't trust Du-all as
far as I could throw them. They may simply want a chance to get some dough
out of  your pocket. The other possibility is that they actually took the
144 degree shutter out and replaced it with the standard one.
