Re: Eclair Cameras: T-max versus 7245
I find it doubtful that any b&w emulsion would be less "grainy" than color,
primarily because in B&W, the silver halide crystals remain in the emulsion,
whereas in color the crystals are used to activate a dye (which makes up the
image) and the actual silver halide is then washed away in the bleach stage
of color processing -- thus, there are no actual "grains" but the remnants
of them left in color emulsions. Further, Kodak has invested magnitudes
more dollars in color emulsion development than B&W -- as someone stated,
the Kodak's B&W stocks are about 40 years old. Most DP's -- providing they
are finishing on video, -- and unless they want the older, grainy B&W look
-- shoot color and then desaturate it in telecine, because the grain is so
much finer.
This is not to overly criticize Kodak B&W stock. It DOES have a "look",
and I shoot it frequently.

Subject: Eclair Cameras: T-max versus 7245
I should think that T-max 100(daylight) would be finer grain than 7245
50(Daylight) ... since all things being equal, B&W would inherently be
significantly sharper than tri-packed color; at the very least T-max 100 and
7245 should be no worse than equal. But to be sure, a look at the specs on
the Kodak data sheets should tell for sure. Any expeert DPs out there
willing to take a crack at this???
