Feb 26th Deadline for US screenings to Directors' Fortnight

February 18, 2003

Dear Friends of IFP:

IFP/New York is pleased to announce that we are returning for the 13th year to serve as the official U.S. representative for the Directors' Fortnight (Quinzaine des Realisateurs) section of the Cannes Film Festival. As the official U.S. representative, the IFP supplies application forms to filmmakers and facilitates the preview screenings of submitted films on behalf of Francois Da Silva, Artistic Director of the Fortnight, and his representative for the American selection, Dominique Welinski.
Screenings will be held at Magno Sound and Video in New York February 27 - March 3. Please note that IFP/New York is not involved in the screening process.

The submission deadline for screening in New York is Wednesday, February 26.

To submit to the Directors' Fortnight, fiction or documentary feature films must fulfill the following requirements:

* The films should have been made after January 2002

* The films should be in 35 mm format (films initially shot in 16 mm or in video, should be blown up in 35 mm prior to their presentation in Cannes)

* Films should not have been broadcast on a TV channel or commercially released in France

* Films should not have been presented in any international competitive festival (except in the author's native country) or any major film event (unless in the context of a film market)

To submit, please do the following:

1. Fax your completed application to IFP/New York (fax: 212/465-8525 ATTN: COLIN STANFIELD). Applications can be downloaded from www.quinzaine-realisateurs.com/uk/espace-pro/reglement.htm

2. Reserve your screening directly with Magno Sound & Video. Call Hada Ruiz at Magno at 212/302-2502 to arrange your screening (35 mm, 16 mm, video). She will provide you with the fees involved and how to send the print/cassette. Magno has arranged for a special discounted screening fee for filmmakers booking through the IFP. Additionally, filmmakers booking screenings through this arrangement will not need to pay the 100 euro entry fee mentioned on the Quinzaine application.

Please note: The Directors' Fortnight will continue to accept films for consideration after the February 26th deadline. The final deadline for applications in Paris is March 31, 2003.

For questions regarding the Directors' Fortnight, please contact Colin Stanfield, Associate Director, International Programs, by phone at 212/465-8200, ext. 216, by fax at 212/465-8525, or by e-mail at cstan@ifp.org.
